Recently a prototype was completed for a larger version of the Schellpfeffer Forceps to allow removal of larger surgical specimens from the abdominal cavity. The blades of the prototype device are 4cm wide compared to the original device's blades which are 2cm wide. This new device can be used with the larger extraction sacs to facilitate their removal through a small mini-laparotomy type incision.
This device will go into production soon to allow laparoscopic surgeons greater flexibility in performing more extensive laparoscopic resections.
